CANDIDATE STATEMENT

I am honored to be nominated by the San Francisco Bay Area Section as a candidate for Secretary-Treasurer, and I would like to thank the District Board for their confidence in my nomination.

I have been involved with ITE since co-founding UC Berkeley’s Cal ITE chapter in 2008. I served as Student Chapter President in 2009 and continue to encourage student interest in the profession as the District’s Student Funding and Initiatives Committee Chair and as Cal ITE’s Professional Liaison. I finished my term as SF Bay ITE President in 2015, upon which the Section received ITE International’s Section Activities Award for the first time. Most recently, I co-chaired the 2019 Western District Annual Meeting, a four-year planning effort that culminated in the first District meeting in Monterey, CA. I am proud to have been recognized for my dedication and contributions to the transportation profession with the following awards:

  • ITE International Rising Star Program Award – 2017

  • ITE Western District Young Professional Achievement Award – 2017

  • SF Bay ITE Professional of the Year – 2017

I have always been passionate about the development and mentorship of the next generation of engineers and planners because of ITE’s impact on me as a student. ITE inspired me to start the Cal ITE chapter and solidified my path into the transportation profession. As the District’s Student Endowment Fund Chair since 2013, I oversaw the fund as it reached its $500,000 goal and expanded the Student Initiatives Program with the introduction of Regional Travel Scholarships. Now in my third term, I continue to manage programs to support students and young professionals. Student initiatives will remain one of my priorities as a District officer.

As a public agency member, I understand the challenges and barriers to participating in professional associations. As a District officer, I would like to explore making ITE more accessible through the online streaming of the District Annual Meeting’s keynote and technical sessions. My leadership experiences at all levels of ITE provide me the insight to efficiently and equitably use resources to best serve members, particularly those from smaller Sections and the public sector.

I am an Engineer at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency where I lead a team of engineers and planners. I am grateful that the SFMTA fully supports my longstanding commitment to ITE, and I hope to have your support and the opportunity to serve the District.
